Many of our councillors have served back to back multiple terms. The same people are coming to the table year after year after year, making decisions and policies that affect our day to day lives. They have served well but it's time that decisions on water, waste manage- ment, roads, transportation, housing, social services, employment, parks, environment and emergency Pplanning take into account the best interests of our residents. It's time that your Regional Councillor better reflects Wards 3 and 4. I have the experience of living in both Wards 3 and 4 since 2001. This is important because the role of a Regional Councillor is to represent you and the well being of the re- gion. You can best do that when you actually live in the ward. I want to learn about your values, ideas, and concerns. The issues matter, Georgetown matters, and most importantly, you matter. An unannounced microwave transmission tower erected barely 150 metre from our back- yard pushed me to take action. Local residents were NOT warned of the potential health hazards http://www.c4st.org/news/category/cell-towers/. What I discovered is that we did not have the right to be informed! Increasingly our governments choose to ig- nore citizens' wishes, those they're supposed to serve and protect, and squander our hard-earned tax dollars in the process. From unwanted G20 photo ops, cancelled gas plants, outrageous ex- pense claims, and rich entitlements, etc… citizens are burdened with ever escalating debt levels. Skyrocketing debt means less and less money for much needed programs to help deserving Cana- dians. There is something very wrong with this picture! Our democracy erodes every day that we, I, fail to take action to halt the abuse. As "eternal vigilance is the price of democracy", I could no longer, in good conscience, leave defending our democracy to "someone else". I have been a local councillor for 17 years and Regional councillor for 11 years and still love the idea of creating a great place to live and work. I am proud of what has been accomplished over the years and am eager to keep making improvements. I have enjoyed my experience at the Region and have developed successful working relationships with councillors and staff whether advocating for our farmers, supporting local organizations or negotiating our fair share of services. I believe being a councillor is one of the most influential jobs one can have as it provides tremendous opportunity to make a positive impact on the quality of life for our residents and success for our businesses. I would like to continue to work for the betterment of our great community. I am running because this has been a dream job for me growing up. I feel at home in Georgetown, and want to en- sure that as a councillor, I will fight to maintain the 'small town feel'.
