Pat and Trisha Harkin (left) present a cheque on behalf of their family for $100,000 to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. Accepting the cheque are Denise Hardenne, Pres- ident and CEO of Halton Healthcare Services and Ken McDermot, Chair of the George- town Hospital Foundation. Photo by Jon Borgstrom Harkin family's $100,000 donation completes Hospital fundraising campaign The Georgetown Hospital Foundation (GHF) has successfully completed its Cam- paign for Georgetown Hospital, Investing in Care--Close to Home, with a $100,000 gift from Pat and Trisha Harkin. The Harkins announced their generous gift at the GHF's annual Donor Appreciation Celebration at the Club at North Halton on Tuesday (Nov. 4). "Trisha and I have lived in Georgetown for many years," said Pat Harkin. "We raised our children here and we truly appreciate what living here has given to us. The hospital has always been there for our family with excel- lent care and we felt this was a good oppor- tunity to give back to the community that we have been part of." "The Harkins' support of the hospital and community is something special-- they have truly made their mark in Georgetown," said Ken McDermot, Chair of the Georgetown Hospital Foundation. "Our mission is to in- spire generosity and what could be more inspirational than the generous show of sup- port we have received from everyone who has supported this Campaign? Our commu- nity should be proud of what they have ac- complished together." Investing in Care--Close to Home was the GHF's biggest-ever fundraising drive. The Campaign has resulted in the construction of a new 14,000 square foot Emergency Depart- ment, doubling the size of the old cramped ER. Featured in the expansion was the acqui- sition of Georgetown Hospital's first CT Scan- ner, eliminating the need for patients to travel to other area hospitals. In addition, the Diag- nostic Imaging Department has been trans- formed-- moving to a larger space and con- solidating services to improve the quality of care that the Hospital provides to its patients. "It was a thrill to be part of this remark- able Campaign," said K.C. Carruthers, GHF Executive Director. "Literally thousands of local residents and organizations pitched in to make this happen over the past three years and it is heartening to have a local family generously put us over our goal of $6.5 mil- lion for better health care." Looking ahead, the completion of Invest- ing in Care--Close to Home means the GHF will have an opportunity to work with its sup- porters on the next top priority initiatives for improving care at Georgetown Hospital. "Our work is never done," said Carruthers. "Government funding never covers the cost of hospital renovations and the equipment our doctors and nurses need to provide the best care. Thankfully we live in a generous community that is willing to invest in out- standing care for its exceptional community hospital."
