I've had a lot of success: controlling growth to its slowest point in 30 years . . . saving and creating greenspace . . . almost doubling the community facilities we needed but didn't have. I have controlled tax bills, too As your mayor, I have one vote on Oakville council and one on Halton council. In a two-tier system like ours, the two councils control most of your tax bill. Working at both levels, I have managed to keep total tax increases at or below the rate of inflation and trending downward. Just check your tax bill! I also cut debt carried on your taxes by 88%. I even got us our new hospital without having to put the local cost on the property tax, the way both Milton and Burlington were forced to. Looking ahead Council and I have already authorized measures to relieve gridlock: wider roads, the Wyecroft bridge to Burloak, and smart traffic lights. Also coming are a new downtown streetscape, added parking, a new library for north Oakville and a rec centre on the old hospital site. We are all better off In my time as your mayor, we've come from 30th to 1st place on the MoneySense Magazine list of Best Places to Live in Canada. Working as your mayor has been the most fulfilling work of my life, topping my founding of YTV. Please vote to keep me as your mayor, working for our town's continued success.
