Take Charge of Your Foot Health! By Cecil Scaglione Remember when you'd feel a bit tired and down but you'd shake it all off and head off to work or dive into the chores of the day - doing the family laundry or baking for the weekend? Nothing to it, you'd say. Now that you're in your senior years, those same feelings of depression and fatigue are blamed on aging. You might try to shake it off by taking a stroll through the nearby park or head- ing to the gym or swimming a few laps in the pool. There's no reason to blame your leth- argy on old age. If that feeling didn't go away when you got to the office years ago, you'd check with a doctor to find out what's ailing you. The same rule applies now. But don't blame it on aging. There's this widespread perception that aging means you've become de- crepit and dementia is just around the corner. If those feelings of depression or fa- tigue or dizziness or forgetfulness don't go away, get medical attention to deter-go away, get medical attention to deter-go away, get medical attention to deter mine their cause. There are several reasons you feel fa- tigues. Your aging body is among them but the medications you take may be contributing. Talk to your doctor about their side effects and affect upon each other. Disease, such as diabetes and arthri- tis are debilitating so naps may get rid of that feeling whether our 25 or 65. So does physical activity. Sitting on your butt only makes the feeling persist. Exercise also fights off the loss of muscle mass associated with growing old and maintains strength and coor-old and maintains strength and coor-old and maintains strength and coor dination that supports our balance to avoid falls. You also should eat right. You probably aren't as hungry as you were years ago because you aren't as active. Your sens- es of taste and smell do diminish as you get older but that doesn't mean you should quit enjoying your favourite food. You should also visit your dentist regu- larly to avoid mouth or tooth disorders that cut into the joy of eating. - Mature Life Features health Age doesn't have to speed up slowing down
