Cause for Canines rais- es funds for global founda- tions committed to ending the cruelty caused by the dog meat trade. "Ren's Pets has always encouraged the local com- munity to be involved with rescue organizations to promote awareness of how we can help dogs in need," said assistant store manag- er Kayla McLean. "We try to have weekly fundraising events in store with differ- ent rescues in need to help- find forever homes for lov- ing canine companions. Over the many years we have seen adopted dogs vis- it with us and it always makes me think how amaz- ing it feels to see a company like Ren's Pets change lives for pets and their human best friend." As part of the Oct. 20 event, Ren's had Free Kore- an Dogs visiting the store with several of the dogs it has available for adoption. The not-for-profit organi- zation was founded in 2015 by EK Park, who grew up on a farm in South Korea and now lives in Toronto. The organization's web- site, www.freekoreandog- s.org, says Korea is the only country in the world that commercially farms dogs for food. In addition to rescuing dogs from farm operations, the organization also works to create awareness in hopes of getting legisla- tive changes to the indus- try. "We can help dogs in other parts of the world by making donations and fundraising for the amaz- ing teams to support them on their journeys of rescu- ing many puppies and dogs in harmful situations," McLean said.
