R 00 14 69 90 98 MORRIS, Velma May Passed away quietly with family by her side on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Lee Manor, Owen Sound. Velma Morris (Nicholson) in her 90th year, predeceased by her husband of over 65 years Robert "Bob" Morris of Owen Sound, formerly of Oakville. Much loved mother to Paul, (Connie) of Kemble, Stephen (Cathy) of St. Jacobs, and John (Karen) of Kemble. Loved Grandmother to Jeff (Nicole Galambos) of Hinton, AB. Cheryl (Karl) Shaw of Kingston, Anne-Marie (Ian) Reid of Shakespeare, Joshua Morris of St. Jacobs and Elizabeth (Bryan) Best of Paris, ON. Great-Grandma to Lucas Morris, Stella Shaw, James Best, and Jack and Theo Reid. In Velma's own words, from about 1998... "Born in Tara, 1929, south west of Owen Sound. I was an only child. Attended a one room country public school. After high school, attended Business College in Owen Sound and then worked in the office of the Children's Aid Society for five years. When attending Business College, Bob and I met, and five years later were married and moved to Toronto which was quite a shock to this country bumpkin. Bob worked for Bell Canada and after five years in Toronto and Scarborough, he was transferred to small town Oakville. We have now lived here in our small bungalow for 37 years. We had three sons, which at times was quite a challenge, but now are all married and we have five grandchildren. Over the years, most of our holidays have been camping trips, starting out with a tent, then a tent trailer, and finally now our 26' house trailer, which hardly is camping anymore! To a lot of people, not a very exciting life. To me, having good health, a happy family, living in a friendly neighbourhood, sharing in the work of St. Paul's United Church, meeting and making many good friends...what more could I ask?" Velma also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for over 35 years! The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Lee Manor and Seasons Retirement Residence staff for their compassionate care these last few years. Friends may call at the Paul H. Eagleson Funeral Home in Tara Ontario, Friday, October 26 from 4 till 7 p.m. The Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27 at 1 p.m. also at Eagleson's Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, just north of Tara. Light lunch and a time for remembrance at Tara United Church, 33 Market Street. Memorial Donations in expression of your sympathy can be made to St. Paul's United Church, 454 Rebecca St., Oakville, ON. L6K 1K7.
