Imperial Oil, Canada's largest refiner of petroleum products, is in the communi- ty consultation phase of its plan to deactivate a trans- portation fuel pipeline and replace it with a new section that traverses 63 kilometres of the Sarnia Products Pipe- line between the Waterdown pump station in rural Hamil- ton and the Finch terminal in North York, passing through Halton along the way. Imperial is in the middle of holding public meetings in the six municipalities where the pipeline exists. A meeting was held in Burlington Nov. 6 and in Mil- ton Nov. 7. Oakville's meet- ing, held after the Beaver's press deadline, was sched- uled for Tuesday, Nov. 13. Ten Imperial Oil subjectTen Imperial Oil subjectT matter experts are at the meetings to provide infor- mation on operations, land, Indigenous collaboration, construction, engineering, and environmental and reg- ulatory considerations. About two dozen resi- dents, including some city staff, attended the Burling- ton meeting while about 10 people, mostly landowners, were at the Milton meeting, asking questions about how the project will impact the community, construction timing and how the commu- nity will stay informed throughout the process. The pipeline enters Bur- lington at Milburough Line and runs parallel to but north of No. 1 Side Road. It passes through Wards 3 and 6 in rural Burlington before exiting the city at Bell School Line, just west of Tremaine Road, where it crosses intoRoad, where it crosses intoR the southernmost end of Mil- ton. From there it runs paral- lel but south of Lower Base- line West then through Oak- ville, back into Milton around Fourth Line and runs parallel but south of Lower Base Line East until entering Mississauga.
