Beth Robertson emerged as the victor in the race for Robinson's council seat during the Oct. 22 municipal election. Ward 3 town Coun. Nick Hutchins will also not re- turn in the next term of council, having lost that election race to Janet Has- lett-Theall. "I want to thank both of you for your many years of service combined," said Ward 6 town and regional Coun. and acting mayor Tom Adams. "We are sitting here to- day with great and tremen- dous respect for the work both of you have done for our whole community, not just for the wards you re- presented. We have all seen firsthand the work you have done. We have worked alongside both of you, Coun. Hutchins and Coun. Robinson, as you provided an enormously positive voice for both your commu- nities, for your area resi- dents and for all of Oak- ville." Adams said Hutchins made his mark in the four years he was on council, serving on a number of committees with passion and commitment. Even before being elect- ed to council, Adams said, Hutchins was active in the community as a member and volunteer director of the Trafalgar Chartwell Residents' Association. Hutchins said it has been a great privilege re- presenting the residents of Ward 3 for the last four years and working with council in a collective ef- fort to make Oakville a bet- ter place. He also referenced the recent MoneySense Maga- zine article, which named Oakville the best place to live in Canada. "The last four years we have had major projects go through, which I am very proud of. Designating Glen Abbey a cultural heritage landscape I think is one of the key ones I will always remember; building the new Lakeshore Road bridge on time and below budget was obviously a very helpful thing; approv- al after the public consulta- tion of the design, funding and the start of the new rec- reation centre and the new park on the former hospital lands. I am certainly looking forward to its com- pletion in the fall of 2020," said Hutchins. "I think these are all huge accomplishments for this council.
