51 | O akville B eaver | T hursday,N ovem ber 15,2018 insidehalton.com Residents looking for a family- friendly restaurant - where the de- cor includes firefighter memora- bilia and a coin flip could get you a free fish and chips meal on Fridays -are invited to attend Oakville's Fi- rehall Cool Bar Hot Grill. The Bronte establishment, which operates under the umbrel- la of the Catch Hospitality Group, has been a fixture of the communi- ty since it opened in 1999. The look of the restaurant is be- yond unique with firefighter hel- mets, toy fire trucks, fire hydrants and photos of fires and firefighters decorating the walls. Firehall owner, Doug Greco, says the firehall theme emerged during the revamping of Chaps Restaurant, which previously oc- cupied the Firehall's 2441 Lake- shore Rd. W. site. The Firehall moved to its new location at 2390 Lakeshore Rd. W., in January 2018. "Chaps had probably seen bet- ter days and what we wanted to do was turn that restaurant into more of a family-friendly restau- rant. Chaps at that corner, at that time seemed to be more of a bar. We wanted to be a family friendly ap- proachable restaurant with no trouble," said Greco. "We decided to do the firehall theme because as I always say, no- body has anything bad to say about firefighters." Firefighters in turn appear to have nothing bad to say about the Firehall, with Greco noting fire- fighters, not only from Oakville, but from across Canada and around the world visit and con- tribute badges, helmets, photos and more to the items on display. In keeping with its goal of being a family-friendly restaurant, the Firehall has had a 21 and over drinking policy in place for nearly 15 years. With around 24 large televi- sions spread throughout the estab- lishment, Greco says the Firehall is also a great spot to watch sports. When it comes to food Greco, who calls Bronte home, said the Fi- rehall is best known for its chicken wings and burgers, which he attri- butes to the meat always being fresh and never processed or fro- zen. "We also have fresh fish and seafoods, pastas and great sand- wiches. A little bit of everything," said Greco. "We're a great lunch spot, a great dinner spot." Each week the Firehall has a se- ries of special days with Monday being kids night, where after 4 p.m., the purchase of one large en- tree allows two children to eat for free. Tuesday is two for one wing night, where after 4 p.m., patrons who order one pound of wings get a second pound free (dine in only). Wednesday offers a deal for a burger and a pint while Friday gives customers a chance to win a free fish and chips meal through the flip of a coin. Sunday offers a deal for a ribs and wings combo. "We smoke our own ribs that day. We have a 200-pound smoker here. We do it all in hickory and oak," said Greco. "It's a great combination. It is certainly very popular." Greco says the Firehall has no shortage of regulars, noting the short distance between the old lo- cation and the new location means they didn't lose anyone because of the move. He says the new 2390 Lakeshore Rd. W. offers greater visibility, and as a result the Firehall continues to see increased sales, even after nearly 20 years in business. "That's mind-boggling for peo- ple in the restaurant business ... continuing to see growth when you are into 18-19 years," said Gre- co. Other activities include a kids New Year's Eve event, featuring music and a balloon drop and a Santa Brunch. Both events have grown in pop- ularity to the point where reserva- tions are needed to attend. For more information about the Firehall visit http://www.the- firehall.ca.
