Nov. 19-23 is designated by the Ontario Ministry of Education as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week.Week.W The goal of the activities is to encourage and promote respect for everyone while increasing awareness and prevention of bullying. "The Halton District School Board absolutely supports and highlights Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week as a priori- ty to making students must feel welcomed, safe and se-feel welcomed, safe and se-f cure in their schools," said Stuart Miller, the public board's director of educa- tion. "An important part of our board's long-term vision is that every student ex- plores and enhances their potential, passions and strengths. "We endeavour to provide an inclusive and respectful learning environment to make this possible. This week, and throughout the school year, we strive to em- phasize and work to demon- strate to our students and staff that we all have a role in showing respect and kind- ness for each other," added Miller. Schools are hosting vari- ous events during the week as well as throughout No- vember. These include: • Robert Little Public School - The Acton elemen- tary school is participating in a #choosekind social me- dia campaign throughout the week. Each day will in- clude a theme for students and staff. To kick things off on Monday, Nov. 19, it will be Take a Compliment, Give a Compliment Day. •Abbey Park High School - The Oakville secondary school has a weeklong schedule of activities planned highlighted by a culture and beliefs fair Nov. 15 comprising more than 20 presenters from the commu- nity. The school is also host- ing therapy dogs on Nov. 19. • Nelson High School - With activities planned allWith activities planned allW week, the Burlington school will be running a social me- dia campaign using the hashtag #spreadkindness to mobilize students to take a stand against bullying.
