The Oakville native, who now calls Waterdown home, will provide a power-point presentation and discussion of the book Heart of Turtle Island, the Niagara Escarp- ment, at Hiker's Haven, 166 South Service Rd. E., on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There will also be special performances. Franklyn McNaughton will open with a Mohawk song. Zelinski's book is a photo- graphic exploration of the Indigenous and modern communities and the envi- ronmental treasures of On- tario's Niagara Escarpment UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.Reserve.R Heart of Turtle Island brings exquisite focus to the environmental treasures of the magnificent Niagara Es- carpment, celebrating the diverse Indigenous and set- tler communities that thrive along its rugged, curving path. "The book has been creat- ed to offer Canadians a mul- tilayered perspective of the living escarpment, its geo- logical, cultural, environ- mental significance and the importance of its protection for future generations," saidfor future generations," saidf Zelinski. Zelinski trained as an artist and designer graduat- ing as the top student of OCAD in 1979. His diverse career as a professional pho- tographer has taken him across 80 countries, with cli- ents ranging from the Na- tional Film Board of Canada to Panasonic. He is also a publisher, writer, painter, filmmaker and winner offilmmaker and winner off the Canadian Governor General's medal. Zelinski is best known for his Books That Heal initia- tive - donating 7,000 copies of his photography books to 100 worldwide charities. His nine internationally ac- claimed photography books include forewords by HRH Prince Philip, the Hon. Lin- coln Alexander, HRH Prince Andrew, AFN Ontario Re- gional Chief Isadore Day and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
