Town clerk Vicki Tyta- neck recently confirmed to the Oakville Beaver that as the main batch of voter no- tification cards were being printed and mailed on Sept. 21 an error was discovered in the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) voters' list that identified 179 households in Ward 7 as being in Ward 6. The error reflected the then-current ward system instead of the newly estab- lished Ward 7. "We took immediate re- medial action to ensure that the voters' list was cor- rected and all affected vot- er cards were reprinted with the correct ward num- ber," said Tytaneck in an email. "The revised cards were hand delivered to many of the affected voters and the remaining cards were clearly identified as revised cards and placed in the mail." Tytaneck noted hand delivery of the revised vot- er cards started the day af- ter the discovery of the er- ror was made (Sept. 22) with 96 cards delivered in this way. She said 12 cards were not delivered or replaced because it was discovered those voters were no longer at that address or were not eligible voters. The remaining cards were placed in the mail Oct. 1 to allow mail time deliv- ery prior to advance vot- ing, which started Oct. 6. Tytaneck also noted that had any of these voters attended any of the town's voting locations during ad- vanced voting or on voting day, the electronic voting system would recognize the correct ward the indi- vidual should be voting in and issue them a Ward 7 ballot. "All location supervi- sors were briefed on this matter, had a Ward 7 voter attended a Ward 6 location on voting day, they would have been redirected to the correct location to vote," said Tytaneck.
