At the beginning of the pandemic a simple thing like going for a walk made me realize that our lives had changed. This poem came to me during one of those walks.

Random Thoughts on the Pandemic 2020

What kind of crazy dance is this while going for a walk
Crossing back and forth we go
Because we must not talk
We give a friendly wave then turn around the block

Remember when a porch chat was sitting close for hours
Now we’re at a distance discussing things like flour

Only seeing family, on FaceTime Skype or Zoom
When what we really want is to be in that same room

Masks on we wander, up and down the isles
Making people look the same and hiding all our smiles

So use your eyes to smile for as the saying goes
Our eyes really are the window to our souls
