Kennedy said she is very impressed with ROCK, what they are doing, their goals and the programs the charity is developing. "I think expanding that facility is very important,"facility is very important,"f she said. "I think this is some- thing my dad would strong- ly support. It's all about lay- ing a foundation ... I think the more programs we offer to young people and their families for support the bet-families for support the bet-f ter off society is going to be." News of the donation was well received by Maria Rosa, whose two teens make use of ROCK's servic- es. She also volunteers her time with the charity. "I think this is phenome- nal," she said. "Learning ROCK is get- ting this type of resource is so exciting because it will expand the programs that are already there and cre- ate a lot more opportunities for families like mine thatfor families like mine thatf can't afford the costs or the wait times to see psychia- trists and psychologists." Maria Rosa said being on a wait list offers little comfort when one of her children goes into crisis. On some occasions she has taken her teens to a hos- pital emergency room but said the help they need does not come quickly there. She said it is different with ROCK, noting she can contact the charity's 24- hour crisis line or bring her kids to a ROCK walk-in clinic and get help. "It's an important re- source for families and caregivers, especially who are going through so much with their teens and their children," said Maria Rosa. "They are just so impor- tant for the entire commu- nity to have, especially when you have nowhere else to go ... The excitement that I felt when I heard this announcement brought me to tears ... It is just so hard to explain how important it is to just be able to go in with your son or daughter and just see someone and get help, get support." ROCK is hoping to break ground on the new facility in the fall of 2019 and finish construction in December 2020. Thanks to the $2-million donation, ROCK now has more than half the funds needed for the expansion. Around $3 million is still required.
