19 | O akville B eaver | T hursday,F ebruary 14,2019 insidehalton.com The Town of Oakville is again raising concerns about the direction the province appears to be taking with regard to fu- ture housing develop- ment. Oakville council voted Monday, Feb. 11 to receive and endorse a report by town staff in which they seek to address some of the changes the Province is proposing. On Jan. 15, the Minis- try of Municipal Affairs and Housing released proposed changes to the provincial Growth Plan for the Greater Goldenfor the Greater Goldenf Horseshoe and is seeking feedback until Feb. 28.feedback until Feb. 28.f The province says the changes are intended to provide greater flexibili- ty and address barriers to building homes, creating jobs, attracting invest- ments and putting in place the right infra- structure while protect- ing the environment. In their report town staff drew attention to several proposed changes they have issues with. One change would see language in the plan changed to read, "the Greater Golden Horse- shoe will have sufficient housing supply that re- flects market demandflects market demandf and what is needed in lo- cal communities." Town senior planner Kirk Biggar said the meaning of "market de- mand" in this context and the impact it would have on the Growth Plan is un- clear. He called for addition- al background, tools and guidance to assist plan- ning authorities with this new theme. Biggar voiced con- cerns about another pro- posed language change that would see the clause "encourage intensifica- tion generally to achieve the desired urban struc- ture" altered to "encour- age intensification gener- ally throughout the delin- eated built-up area."
