"We are a small community and we took a big risk," said Michael Patterson, priest of the Anglican Church of the Incarnation. "But we needed to do this to be stewards of the environment. This wasn't a business decision; it was an environmental deci- sion." It has been a five-year journey for the small faith community. Geo-thermal technology is described by the On- tario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Af- fairs as a system that "provides both heating and cooling by taking advantage of soil, below the frost line, that remains a relatively constant temperature all year round. In winter, the fluid-filled pipe is warmed by the surrounding earth. Inside the build- ing, a heat pump extracts that heat and circulates it either via a forced air system or hot water pipes. If a forced air system is used, the heat pump can be oper- ated in the opposite direction in summer to cool the building," stated a church press release. Jasvinder Sandhu is looking for "bright and energetic interns" who want to learn more about local politics and be part of a team ded- icated to serving the residents of Oakville. Sandhu, who has been involved in mentorship for a decade, has put out a call on her Facebook page for a Grade 11 or 12 student with a "knack for social media." Students will receive community hours for their time. Sandhu said she'll likely accept two cohorts a year, but is starting with an inaugural cohort. Pref- erence will be given to residents of Ward 7. "I feel very passionately about contributing to professional development," said Sandhu. "I expect interns to leave with an understanding of profes- sionalism and public service." Applications are due March 10. To apply, visit https://www.facebook.com/ job_opening/952175788322763/?source=share. OAKVILLE COUNCILLOR LAUNCHING POLITICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
