The Oakville Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the business awards event in partnership with the Ro- tary Club of Oakville West, announced March 13 that the May Court Club of Oak- ville was selected as the re- cipient of the CN Charity/ Not-for-Profit Excellence Award. "The CN Charity/Not- for-Profit Excellence Awardfor-Profit Excellence Awardf honours not-for-profit orga- nizations who are highly re- garded in the area of raising funds and providing servic-funds and providing servic-f es to improve the lives of people within our commu- nity," said Tim Caddigan, chair of the Oakville Cham- ber of Commerce Board. "This year we are proud to present the award to the May Court Club of Oak- ville." The local club is a volun- teer women's organization that provides services and funds to the community.funds to the community.f Their mission is to help those that are vulnerable; especially women, children, seniors, and those with physical and mental chal- lenges. This is done through their fundraising efforts, in which they help fund agen- cies who have locations within Oakville and Halton Region.Region.R They have supported nu- merous organizations in the community including Home Suite Hope, Light- house for Grieving Chil- dren, Food4Kids, Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospi- tal and Fare Share Food- bank. The chamber says the May Court Club has served the Oakville community since 1956. The Oakville club has more than 240 volunteer members. It also supports the local community through its Nearly New Shop, a con- signment store located in Kerr Village.Kerr Village.K Since opening its doors in 1957, the shop has served thousands of customers in Oakville. The chamber said 100 per cent of the net profits from this store are directed into the community. Over the years these funds have amounted to $1.5funds have amounted to $1.5f million. The 24th annual Oak- ville Awards for Business Excellence Gala will take place at the Oakville Con- ference Centre at 2515 Wye-ference Centre at 2515 Wye-f croft Rd.
