He had a point in all nine games over the final two rounds, including multiple points in the final six. He had five goals and 11 points in the four-game sweep in the OJHL final. "He was just on fire. He was obviously a difference- maker," Tarantino said. "Every game, every series, different guys were step- ping up. And we played sol- id defence throughout." "Everything seemed to be going in. We mixed up the lines a little and our line with (Josh) Nixon and (Kyle) Lewis just took off," Kersten said. "But every line had its own identity and contributed some- thing. I think it just speaks to our depth." The Blades, who al- lowed the third fewest goals in the regular season, were even stingier in the playoffs. Rookie Will Bar- ber posted a 1.37 goals- against average and a .940 save percentage. Only twice did Oakville surren- der more than three goals in a playoff game. A big part of that was the Blades penalty-killing unit. Oakville killed off 93.9 per cent of their penalties, allowing four just power- play goals over their 19- game run. And their three short-handed goals all but cancelled those out. That strong defensive foundation meant the Blades were in every game. Over 74 regular season and playoff games, Oakville on- ly lost consecutive games once. That was in the last week of January when Wel- lington and Cobourg beat Oakville six days apart. And when Wellington needed just one in the final to try to establish some mo- mentum, they couldn't top the Blades. Even with his family's longtime connection to the Blades - his dad was in Wel- lington to see the Blades lift the Buckland Cup - Taran- tino was most excited for the players. "It's a great group of kids," he said. "They put in a lot of time and effort this season to do this." The Blades will now travel to Cochrane, Ont., for the Dudley Hewitt Cup, the Central Canadian championship. They will play the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League champion on April 30. The hosts and the champion of the Superior International Junior Hockey League will also be vying for a spot at the Royal Bank Cup, the na- tional Jr. A championship. "We're not done yet," Kersten said. "We'll have a nine-hour bus ride to Co- chrane, then we'll get fo- cused and get ready to do what we do best."
