COMMUNITY NOTICE Annual Vegetation Management Program CN is required to clear its rights-of-way from any vegetation that may pose a safety hazard. Vegetation on railway rights-of-way, if left uncontrolled, can contribute to trackside fires and impair proper inspection of track infrastructure. As such, for safe railway operations, the annual vegetation control programwill be carried out on CN rail lines in the province of Ontario. A certified applicator will be applying herbicides on and around the railway tracks (mainly the graveled area/ ballast). All product requirements for setbacks in the vicinity of dwellings, aquatic environments and municipal water supplies will be met. At this time, we expect that the program will take place from May 6, 2019 to July 12, 2019. Visit www.cn.ca/vegetation to see the list of cities aswell as the updated schedule. For more information, you may contact the CN Public Inquiry Line at 1-888-888-5909. It didn't take long for Xianlin Ji and Jerry Wang to figure out their styles complimented one another on the badminton court. "I'm at the back attack- ing," says Wang, "and he's at the front doing all the trick shots." "Together, we're a good combination," adds Ji. It shouldn't come as a surprise then where the Ir- oquois Ridge partnership was born - chemistry class. Ji qualified for OFSAA last year after a second- place finish at the Golden Horseshoe (GHAC) cham- pionships, but when his doubles partner graduat- ed, he needed a replace- ment. He and Wang struck up a conversation and formed a partnership for the coming season. And though they worked well together, they had run into the same road- block all season: twice this season, they had lost to the same duo from Abbey Park, including in the Hal- ton final. At the GHAC championship, they finally got past them in a mara- thon match. Ji and Wang took the opener 28-26, but their ri- vals came back to take the second set 21-15. Not want- ing to meet the same fate they did at Haltons, the Trailblazers duo battled back for a 21-18 victory. The victory earned them a trip to OFSAA in May 2-4; Ji hopes last year's experience will pay off. "I think it will help in terms of not being nervous, knowing what to expect and how to prepare." Returning to OFSAA for a third time is White Oaks' Matthew Yang, who won his third straight GHAC championship Yang cruised to a 21-9, 21- 13 victory after needing three sets to win last year's title. "It's probably not a good mindset, but I had more of a fear of not winning," he said. The Grade 12 student used to play competitively, but now just plays recre- ationally once a week. Still, he'll be facing club players at OFSAA, putting him at a disadvantage. "They play more and train harder," he said, "so the one advantage they have is stamina." That didn't prevent him from winning the B flight semifinals last year at the provincial tournament.
