A great way to save money on your kitchen renovation is by painting and refurbishing your pre-loved cabinets. When it comes to paint, your cabinets are a blank canvas - so dare to be adven- turous with colour. Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore colour and design expert, shares three key components that will bring new life to your kitchen. Choose colour Create contrast in a pale kitchen by us- ing a deeper colour on the cabinets. "A sophisticated blue like Hale Navy HC-154, paired together with reflective metallic ac- cents and appliances, adds a contempo- rary yet classic feel to your kitchen," says Grech. "Benjamin Moore Advance paint and primer are optimal for cabinets and high- traffic areas like kitchens as its unique formula offers a durable, high-end finish and has the advantage of soap and water clean-up." Use the right technique Painting cabinets can be a big job, es- pecially if you have a lot of room to cover. Hiring a contractor will remove the hassle and get the job done in much less time. If you're interested in taking on this project yourself, Grech recommends starting with a thorough wash and sand. Removing the doors, hinges and handles will give you the flattest and easiest painting surface. Then ready your cabinets for paint with a premi- um primer for a smoother, high-quality look. Finish with two coats of your fresh new co- lour and let dry for 24 hours. Select complementary hardware Complementary hardware such as han- dles, pulls and faucets bring an additional layer of contrast and texture to your kitch- en. "With coloured cabinetry, opting for simple hardware in gold, bronze or silver adds the perfect finishing touch while en- hancing the kitchen colours."
