The online publication Animation Career Review - which annually ranks schools offering animation, game design and graphic de- sign programs - listed Sheri- dan in its 2019 ranking as the number 1 international ani- mation college in the world, excluding the U.S. Sheridan staff said that Animation Career Review considered more than 160 in- stitutions outside of the U.S. in developing its ranking. Their analysis looked at each school's academic rep- utation, admission selectiv- ity, depth and breadth of program, and value as it re- lates to tuition and indebt- edness. "We're incredibly proud of this noteworthy recogni- tion as a world-leading des- tination for animation edu- cation," said Janet Morri- son, president and vice- chancellor of Sheridan. "Since 1968 when Sheri- dan held its first animation class, we've established our position at the forefront of teaching art in motion." Morrison said that Sheri- dan's animation program emphasizes classical princi- ples of animation in a vari- ety of forms, including 2D digital, 3D and stop motion. She noted that at Sheridan's Trafalgar Campus located in Oakville, students learn the art of storyboarding from industry professionalsfrom industry professionalsf and hone life drawing, lay- out and digital painting skills. Graduates of Sheridan's animation program have gone on to work with global- ly renowned studios, includ- ing Disney, Pixar, Nelvana and Guru. Most recently, Sheridan alumna Domee Shi was awarded the Oscar for Best Animated Shortfor Best Animated Shortf Film for her directorial de- but, Bao, at the 91st Acade- my Awards on Feb. 24, 2019. In 2015, three of the five films nominated for Oscarsfilms nominated for Oscarsf in the Best Animated Fea- ture category were directed by Sheridan-trained anima- tors - including Chris Wil- liams, who won that year for Big Hero 6.
