Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford announced May 17 that the provincial gov- ernment's Celebrate Onta- rio program will provide $17,394 in funding to the Willson Oakville Film Festi-Willson Oakville Film Festi-W val, which will be held at the Oakville Centre for the Per- forming Arts and the Film-forming Arts and the Film-f .ca Cinemas. The program will also provide $25,000 in funding to the Songs of Summer fes- tival in downtown Oakville. Crawford said Celebrate Ontario supports festivals and events of all sizes to help them reach new audi- ences, improve the pro- grams for visitors, benefit local economies and create new jobs He said that, according to past recipients, every dol- lar invested through Cele- brate Ontario results in al- most $21 of visitor spending. "Our government recog- nizes the important contri- butions that festivals and events make to Oakville's economy," said Crawford. "I am pleased that we are supporting Songs of Sum- mer and the Willson Oak- ville Film Festival, as they both continue to draw visi- tors from across the prov- ince and provide a positive economic impact to our community." Crawford said that, this year, to help reduce red tape and the administrative bur- den for organizers, Ontario has streamlined the appli- cation process to make it easier to apply for funding. Ontario's Tourism, Cul- ture and Sport Minister Mi- chael Tibollo said that, by investing in events and fes- tivals, the provincial gov- ernment is tapping into the economic potential of the tourism industry. "As we develop Ontario's new tourism strategy, we will continue to invest in programs like Celebrate Ontario that help to maxi- mize the growth and com- petitiveness of the great fes- tivals and events that take place throughout the prov- ince," he said. Tibollo noted Ontario is investing more than $13 mil- lion in more than 250 festi- vals and events in commu- nities across the province, plus another $4 million in "blockbuster events." He said data from 2016 in- dicates that tourism sup- ported nearly 390,000 jobs and generated more than $34 billion worth of econom- ic activity in Ontario.
