Ontario is already a leader in Canada when it comes to reducing emis- sions and yet the rest of the country has increased its emissions by six per cent. Ontario does not need a carbon tax, what we do need is to create the condi- tions for businesses to in- vest in new technologies to replace fossil fuels. Our government knows that producing real results for our environment comes through providing incen- tives for polluters to work with local grassroots stakeholders. This is why our govern- ment has committed to a comprehensive Made-in- Ontario Environment Plan designed to protect what matters most. We are tak- ing a different approach to fighting climate change by investing $400 million into an Emission Reduction Fund to encourage private investments in clean tech- nologies to protect our green spaces and water sources. Our system is flex- ible and ties emissions to a polluter's specific unit of production, and allows for companies to leverage pri- vate sector investments in- to clean energy and tech- nologies to ensure that companies have good ac- cess to them. At the same time, we need to encourage our lo- cal communities to work together building grass- roots movements that teach people how to protect the unique needs of our lo- cal ecosystems. That is why I continue to support com- munity organizations such as Oakvillegreen and the Halton Environmental Network at their local events. Whether it's plant- ing trees and rain gardens to protect our local water- shed, or cleaning up trash in our parks throughout Oakville North-Burling- ton, they work hard to keep our green spaces clean.
