Changes to the Parks By-law The Town of Oakville is proposing changes to its parks by-law to include regulations for smoking cannabis and vaping in town parks and recreation facilities. Learn more and have your say: Community Services Committee Meeting (CSC) Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m. Town Hall, Council Chambers 1225 Trafalgar Road The Parks By-law 2013-013 prohibits smoking within town parks and recreation facilities. The by-law currently applies only to smoking tobacco on town- owned parks and recreational properties. The Province's Smoke Free Ontario Act, 2017 prohibits smoking of tobacco, cannabis and vaping of any substance within all recreation facilities and within 20 metres from property lines. This Act also has a 20-metre setback from all playgrounds and sporting areas including spectator areas. A staff report being presented on June 17 recommends that Council approve an amendment to Parks By-law 2013-013 so it is consistent with provincial legislation that prohibits vaping and cannabis use anywhere smoking is prohibited. In addition, the staff report provides a process to add licensing of businesses who sell vaping products to the licensing by-law. A draft by-law is being presented at the meeting on June 17. The decision of the CSC will be forwarded to Council on June 24 at 7 p.m. Have your say If you wish to speak at the meeting, you may register as a delegate with the Clerk's department by noon the day of the meeting at 905-815-6015 or by email townclerk@oakville.ca.
