Over the last 12 months the Halton Region Para- medic Services responded to 51 suspected overdoses in Burlington, 68 in Oak- ville, 45 in Milton, and 19 in Halton Hills. Deaths from opioid overdoses are also on the rise in Halton with the Hal- ton Region Health Depart- ment noting these deaths have risen from 12 in 2014 to 40 in 2018. They said the percent- age of opioid-related deaths involving fentanyl in Halton has increased from 20 per cent in 2013 to 70 per cent in 2017. The Halton Region is working to ensure people who use drugs, their fami- lies and friends, can access free naloxone through the region's clinic and out- reach programs. They are also equipping first responders with nal- oxone and engaging out- reach and treatment part- ners to work together on a local response.
