Now he hopes to have many more in the future af- ter signing with the Toron- to Blue Jays. The Jays, who drafted the Abbey Park student in the third round of this year's draft, signed the 17- year-old Tuesday. Brown had previously committed to Texas A&M University, but will instead join the Jays' minor league system. Brown, who plays for the Ontario Blue Jays and was a member of Canada's national junior team, was the first Canadian selected in this year's draft, going 88th overall. The outfielder was considered among the fastest players available in the draft. SHARKS SIGN GALLANT The San Jose Sharks have signed Oakville's Zach Gallant. "Zachary is an up and coming centre who can use his size to create space in the offensive zone," said San Jose general manager Doug Wilson. "He will be rejoining the Peterbor- ough Petes to captain one of the top teams in the OHL. We are excited to watch him develop his skills as a power forward under head coach Rob Wil- son as he continues to be a leader for his club next sea- son." Gallant was originally drafted in the third round by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2017 NHL draft. The 20-year-old has 107 points in 195 games over four Ontario Hockey League seasons. He was limited to just 30 games with the Petes last season, scoring 13 goals and 25 points. He joined the ECHL's Toledo Walleye at the end of the season and had six goals and 12 points in 24 playoff games as he helped the team reach the Kelly Cup final, where the Wall- eye lost to the Newfound- land Growlers. GOLOUBEF STAYING IN OTTAWA Oakville's Cody Golou- bef signed a one-year, two- way contract extension with the Ottawa Senators. The 29-year-old defence- man played in five games with Ottawa last season af- ter being acquired from the Boston Bruins in January. He played the rest of the season in the American Hockey League where he had six goals and 24 points in 46 games, split between Providence and Belleville. Goloubef has played 134 career NHL games with Columbus, who selected him 37th overall in the 2008 draft, Colorado and Otta- wa. He has spent time in the NHL in seven of the past eight seasons, the lone ex- ception being the 2017/18 season when he signed a minor-league contract in order to remain eligible for the Olympics, where he won a bronze medal with Canada. Goloubef also won gold at the World Junior Cham- pionships in 2009. CHILD TO REPRESENT CANADA Oakville's Annabel Child has been named to the team that will defend Canada's gold medal at the Women's Lacrosse Un- der-19 World Champion- ship in Peterborough. The Oakville Lady Hawks' midfielder was one of 18 players chosen for the Canadian team that will at- tempt to defend Canada's victory in 2015. The 16-year- old Hill Academy student has committed to Harvard. The tournament will take place from Aug. 1-10. PENNYFATHER TO PADDLE AT WORLD JUNIORS Oakville's Kate Penny- father will represent Cana- da at the Junior Canoe Sprint World Champion- ships Aug. 1-8 in Pitesti, Ro- mania.
