Montague is behind the Star Awards Gala which celebrates the talents and contributions of commu- nity members with devel- opmental challenges. What began seven years ago as an event he hosted in his home with 12 friends, has grown into a gala that draws up to 200 people. This year, there will be 50 nominees recognized, with many from Special Olympics Oakville, the Halton school boards and the Special Friends Net- work in Milton. Many of these nomi- nees, however, don't yet have a sponsor for the $50 ticket price, so he is seek- ing sponsorships, said Montague. "We're very desperate for sponsors. If anyonefor sponsors. If anyonef would like to contribute, the best way is to give me a call and sponsor a nomi- nee," said the Oakville event planner and Special Olympian who has dreams of making the event even bigger. "Our focus is trying to bring the gala to people who haven't heard of it be- fore. I've spoken to a lot offore. I've spoken to a lot off parents and they just can't believe this is what I do - award people for what they do in their day-to-day lives," said Montague. The gala will also fea- ture three special awards, the Live One Day at a Time Award, the Tim Robertson Award and the Felicetta Bottoni Award. His Excel- lency Bishop Douglas Crosby will be a guest and the evening will include entertainment by a magi- cian and singer Kathleen Fitzgerald. The gala will take place Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Holiday Inn Oakville Cen- tre. Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor can call Montague at 905-815- 5559.
