Born and raised in Montreal QC, the son of George and Helen (Doherty) Applebee. In his early years, he held several jobs before the age of fifteen. In 1944, he joined the Canadian Army. World War II ended before he received an assignment. After serving in the army, Gerry joined the Canadian Marconi Company in Montreal, where he served for 46 years. He truly enjoyed his time at Marconi and especially enjoyed the many friends he made there. It was at Marconi that he met the girl of his dreams, whom he later married. A strongly principled man, sensitive and caring, who enjoyed swimming, bowling, softball, a good discussion and any sport his children played. He always put family first. Gerry is survived by his wife of 69 years, Theresa (nee Ouimet), his brothers Fred and George (Rose), his children; Michael (Noreen), Gordon (Donna), Gerald Jr. (Dorothy), Donna Raterink (Lou) and Martin (Eva), his grandchildren; Brian (Stacey), Karen, Michael, Darryl (Erin), Jessica (Dennis), Heather, Amelia, Matthew (Kate), Laura, Daniel (Robin), Thomas and Peter, great-grandchildren; Liam, Quinn, Everett, Claire, Sullivan, Oliver, Evelyn, Michaela, Andrew, Brodie, Teagen, Logan, and Sophia. Douglas lived in Bronte for the majority of his adult life and was known by many as "Torch". He was a proud Grandpa and an avid sports fan. Douglas is survived by his daughter, Erin Smith (Ben Smith); his granddaughters, Camden and Madison Smith; his brother, Don Gilpin; his ex-wife, Marianne Caples and his nephew and niece, Daniel Gilpin and Lauren Gilpin. Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Owen and Shirley Gilpin. A memorial with close family will be held in his honour. HEADON, John Peacefully, on Saturday, June 22, 2019, after a long illness, John Headon, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at age 78. Born on January 4, 1941 in Cooksville, Ontario to Jean (nee Wood) and George Headon. Married to his beloved wife Michelle (nee Dion) since 1982. Proud father to David, Anne (Glenn), Emily (James), and Matthew (Tamara). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Julianne, Erin, Daniel, Carly and William. He will also be missed by the mother of his children and life- long friend Virginia McCulloch, brother-in-law Gerry Barnhill and nephews John and Paul (Colleen). John's friendship with James Crosbie will be forever cherished. John was predeceased by his sister Mary Barnhill. He'll also be fondly remembered by his wonderful family in Ste. Madeleine, Quebec. Grateful to Chuck and Darlene and all of their friends at the campground for their ongoing help and support.
