CONFIDENT TO An Oakville high school teacher is accused of pro- fessional misconduct fol-fessional misconduct fol-f lowing allegations she pro- moted gambling in class and belittled a student with comments such as "life would be a hundred times better without him in it." The startling allega- tions are found in a notice of hearing document alleg- ing that Lillian Donaldson, an English teacher at Ab- bey Park High School be- hind the Glen Abbey Com- munity Centre, is guilty of professional misconduct. None of the allegations against Donaldson have been proven and she is scheduled to appear at an Ontario College of Teach- ers disciplinary hearing Nov. 12. Donaldson deferred comment on the case to her lawyer, Jack Brown, who also didn't comment when reached by Metroland Me- dia. Donaldson faces a num- ber of allegations under the Ontario College of Teachers Act, including that she abused a student verbally, psychologically or emotionally, that she "failed to maintain the standards of the profes- sion" and that she "com- mitted acts that, having re- gard to all the circum- stances, would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonour- able or unprofessional." The notice of hearing was brought about after accusations stemming from the 2016/2017 schoolfrom the 2016/2017 schoolf year in which Donaldson is accused of making a num- ber of inappropriate com- ments to a male student in her class, including that he is a "nerd." She also told him to "be intelligent for once," to "go to hell," to "get a life" and suggested she had no friends, according to the Notice of Hearing document. She is also accused of telling the student "that life would be a hundred times better without him in it." Donaldson is further accused of engaging in "in- appropriate conduct" by yelling at students and promoting gambling in class, according to the alle- gations. Halton District School Board spokesperson Mar- nie Denton confirmed Donaldson is an employee of the Board. She said she couldn't comment on her personnel record, includ- ing whether she has been suspended, as "personnel matters are an employee matter between the em- ployer and employee." Donaldson received her teaching certificate in 2001, according to the On- tario College of Teachers website.
