J Throughout theDay3pmto4pm Two Oakville men are facing numerous charges following two nighttime break-ins, the theft of a Hummer and various fraud-related purchases. Overnight on June 15, suspects approached a res- idence on Golden Meadow Trail in Oakville and en- tered through a ground- floor window, after cutting the screen, police said. The intruders took keys to a 2007 Hummer SUV and then stole the vehicle from the driveway. Several credit cards were also stolen and later used at several restaurants and stores in Burlington, Oakville and Toronto. The Hummer SUV was recovered several days lat- er in Oakville. Residents were present at the time of this break-in, but were sleeping. A second break-in oc- curred on the night of June 30. Suspects approached a residence on Granby Drive and entered through an un- locked side door, police said. The intruders stole a wallet, a purse and a bottle of Scotch whiskey. Again, the homeowners were present but heard nothing. A neighbouring home on the same street was ap- proached by a suspect, however, he was unable to find a way inside. Halton police initiated an investigation into these incidents, with officers canvassing video from the areas and conducting fo- rensic examinations. This investigation re- sulted in two arrests on Wednesday, July 24. Officers also executed search warrants at both in- dividuals' residences, where they say evidence was seized. Daniel Strigl, 21, of Oak- ville has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering to commit theft, attempted break and enter with intent, theft of a motor vehicle, fraud, fraudulent use of credit cards and two counts of breaching proba- tion. Khalid Said, 27, of Oak- ville has been charged with breaking and entering to commit theft, theft of a mo- tor vehicle, fraud, fraudu- lent use of credit cards, three counts of breaching probation and two counts of driving while disquali- fied. Both individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing. Anyone with additional information about these in- cidents is asked to contact Halton police at 905-825- 4747 ext. 2258 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 2 MEN ARRESTED FOLLOWING OAKVILLE CRIME SPREE DAVID LEA dlea@metroland.com NEWS
