The Halton Hills Blue Fins sent 50 of their best swimmers to compete at the Ontario Division 1 Team Championships this past weekend at the Etobicoke Olympium. This is a meet where the biggest and best clubs from all over Ontar- io met up and raced it out. Highlights of the weekend in- cluded: Aleks Plackoski earned a silver and bronze, plus five provin- cial qualifying standards and set a club record. Livy Olson earned a silver medal and made her first Eastern Canadian qualifying time. Jason Reid grabbed a silver in the 1,500 metre freestyle, one of the tough- est events. Quinn West set two club re- cords this weekend and punched his ticket to the Eastern Canadian Championships, as well as landing his first Age Group National time. Katherine Peel also qualified for the Eastern Canadian Champion- ships, set a club record and she too acquired her first Age Group Nation- al time. Simon Olsen achieved two provincial qualifying standards and Shannon Jickling made her first pro- vincial standard while breaking two club records. Emily Collis also broke a club record and Carter DeForest made another provincial standard. Kathleen Reedman qualified for On- tario Festivals and will join Matthew Jackson, Ben Holt and Stephanie Schweigl in February at the Ontario Winter Festival Championships. "It's so exciting to watch our team feed off of each other's success and push each other to new heights." said Blue Fins' head coach Chris Henderson. "I'm so very proud of these ath- letes and how they work, for what they want." Blue Fins shine at Ontario Division I Team Championships SPORTS CHRIS HENDERSON
