Clark's Pro Hockey Heroes skated away with a lopsided victory over the Firefighters in front of about 1,200 spectators. Several retired NHLers took part in the contest, includ- ing Gary Leeman, Al Iafrate, Ric Nattress and Dave McIlwain. Cancer survivor Shawna Dinwoody of Acton took her usual turn in goal for the former pros. Between the charity hockey game and a variety night held in Acton each June, more than $100,000 has been raised for CAShh by the organizing group. Photo by Jon Borgrstrom Local residents will have the op- portunity to get a piece of the old Memorial Arena at the fourth-an- nual Coaches' Cup on Friday night at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex. Bricks from Memorial Arena, which was closed in 2012, will be on sale for $10 each from 6-9 p.m. in the Alcott Arena lobby. Approximately 2,500 of the bricks are available to be purchased, with an authenticity stamp 1927-2012, to support the Stay Home and Play Campaign, which was established to help pay for the construction of three new ice surfaces in Georgetown and Acton. As for the Coaches' Cup, it's an- other doubleheader this year with bench bosses from the North Halton Twisters' girls' hockey organization taking on their counterparts with the Halton Hills Minor Hockey Associa- tion beginning at 7:30 p.m. At about 9 p.m., the HHMLA Thunder rep coaches will face off against members of the Halton Hills Referees' Association. Photo by James Matthews/Orangeville Banner Rebels shoot hoops in Ohio Two boys' basketball teams from Georgetown Dis- trict High School came away from a trip to the Buck- eye State with a lot more than memories from their efforts on the court this past weekend. The Rebels traveled to the Dayton, Ohio area for a series of exhibition games against their U.S. counter- parts on a three-day trip accompanied by their fami- lies that included a busy itinerary of activities. On day one, GDHS took on Dayton's Mami Val- ley School in a doubleheader, with the junior Rebels defeating the hosts 47-43 as Adam McVittie dropped in a dozen points, with Ben Abram and Mason Lebel adding 10 apiece. Georgetown's seniors were edged 44-42 by Mami Valley despite a 17-point effort from Nick Belliveau and 11 more from Scott Chapman. And while the Rebels received some humbling on- floor lessons from the eighth-ranked school in Ohio on the second leg of their trip, dropping a pair of lop- sided contests against Archbishop Alter, there were other memorable moments as well. Alter chose its games against Georgetown to retire the number of a member of its 1999 team, the late Kurt Murnen, who played for the school in his senior year despite battling cancer. A fund was established in Murnen's name to help cancer patients in the Day- ton area and the Rebels made a donation to the cause from money raised at tournaments they hosted this past fall. The local teams also visited the U.S. Air Force Na- tional Museum in Dayton before returning home. On Tuesday night, the 4-5 Rebels will host Burling- ton's Nelson at 7:30 p.m. on Seniors' Night in a Hal- ton Tier I league senior matchup. Each of the team's graduating seniors will be presented with a framed "G" print. Georgetown Raiders' rookie net- minder Jack LaFontaine posted his second shutout in as many starts Sunday afternoon in his Ontario Junior Hockey League team's 3-0 blanking of the Orangeville Flyers. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound La- Fontaine made 35 saves to im- prove his record to 16-3-2, while his teammates fired 36 shots on the Orangeville net, with Blake Jones, Brampton minor midget call-up Jack Jacome and Anthony Marra providing the goal scoring. Georgetown's home date with the Trenton Golden Hawks slated for Saturday night was postponed due to bad weather. The first-place 24-4-3-5 Raiders were scheduled to travel to Buf- falo Wednesday night to take on the Jr. Sabres before hosting the St. Michael's Buzzers Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Alcott Arena.
