Emal cgamble@theifp.ca A THING OF BEAUTY From our readers 'Quote unquote' Check your mailbox for the waste guide The Halton Region Guide & Waste Collection Calendar will be mailed out in late January, and includes important information on Halton Region's programs and services and waste collection in Halton Hills. For 2015, we have expanded our Calen- dar to feature the new Halton Region Guide which includes useful information about Re- gional services, how to prepare your fam- ily for an emergency, key contact numbers and sources for get- ting the latest infor- mation about Halton. The addition of the Guide provides resi- dents with essential information in one resource. The Waste Cal- endar provides a full waste collec- tion schedule for February 2015 to March 2016 which includes holiday collection delays and an overview of the town's five collection areas. It also features Blue Box, Gre- enCart, bulk waste, yard waste and metal and appliances collection for residents of Acton and Georgetown. The Calendar also contains valu- able information on sorting waste, different types of waste, waste diver- sion and the Halton Waste Manage- ment Site, one of the Region's most valuable assets. With the cost of constructing a new landfill nearing $1 billion, Halton residents have significantly extended the Waste Site's lifespan with an impressive waste diversion rate of 62 per cent for single-family households. I am confident that the informa- tion included in the 2015 Calendar will support our combined efforts to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in Hal- ton. By taking steps to di- vert household waste from the landfill, we help strengthen the economy and preserve our natu- ral environment, both in Halton Hills and the re- gion as a whole. The responsible use of our resources and pro- tecting green space helps ensure a high quality of life in Halton, both today and for future genera- tions. Thank you to all resi- dents for your contribu- tions to making Halton more sustainable. If you have not received your Halton Region Guide & Waste Col- lection Calendar by the first week of February, you can order one through the online service request tool at Halton.ca/waste or by dial- ing 311. You can also access your waste collection calendar online at Hal- ton.ca/wastecalendar.
