Playing the lottery as a group has paid off for three colleagues-- Yeng Gaw of Markham, Chi Leung of Stouffville and David Robin- son of Georgetown-- the winners of the $10,052,203.30 jackpot from the Jan. 31 LOTTO 6/49 draw. "Even though the draw happened Saturday, I only checked the ticket last night," recalled Gaw after arriving at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto yesterday (Wednesday) with his group members to claim the winnings, following a sleepless night. It took Gaw a couple of tries before he was able to reach Robinson, who was in disbelief about the win. Robinson said, "I made Yeng scan the ticket on his computer and send me a copy. When I checked the numbers myself I was in utter shock. You always wish for something like this to happen and finally it does!" Gaw, Leung and Robinson have been play- ing LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX weekly as a group for a year. Robinson plans to buy his wife a car with his share of the winnings, Leung would like to take a vacation and Gaw wants to put his share into a bank account and decide what to do with it later. "We won't be changing our routine going forward. We will continue to play because you never know," said the group. Halton Regional Council approved the 2015 Budget and Business Plan with a 1.5 per cent increase in property taxes, for Regional programs and services. The budget also in- cludes a 4.9 per cent increase in the 2015 Water and Waste- water Rate. Of the 4.9 per cent increase, 1.1 per cent will fund operating costs of Halton's water and wastewater systems to keep Halton's water safe and 3.8 per cent is for investment in treatment plants and pipeline systems.
