NEWS The Town of Halton Hills will be receiving $326,901 from the provincial government as an interim payment towards the costs in- curred from the December 2013 ice storm. "We are disappointed that we didn't get the full amount at this time," said Hal- ton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. "Halton Hills was the worst hit community in On- tario by the ice storm. We are looking for- ward to a positive outcome for the balance of our claim". The interim payment that the Town will be receiving represents 35 per cent of the $934,000 that was submitted by Town staff. This provincial funding, offered to the Town on Friday, will go back to several Town reserve accounts that were used to initially fund the cost of the ice storm clean-up, including the severe weather event reserve fund. "I trust our municipal partners and I know that staff from all our municipali- ties have spent untold hours putting the claims together to satisfy the Govern- ment's process," said MPP Ted Arnott. "I was glad to support their efforts." In announcing the payment, the Min- istry of Municipal Affairs and Housing added that final payments, when they are issued, will be based on the outcome of a complete claim review. Yanni Dagonas, spokesperson for Ted McMeekin Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, said they are currently going through the Town's claim. The vast major- ity of claims were received Dec. 31, he said. By Lisa Tallyn ltallyn@theifp.ca Following closely behind Halton Hills Hydro after they restored power to the town, Town of Halton Hills works crews were out in full force December 2013, cleaning up the piles of broken tree branches and limbs, left in the wake of the ice storm.
