In the winter, she distinctly remembers embracing the aroma of homemade bread when she opened the door upon finally arriving home. • She felt special quilting alongside herMom - she still has a quilt on her bed at Birkdale that she madewith herMom. • They didn't have muchwhen shewas growing up -she always wanted a two-wheeler like the other kids but they couldn't afford one -shewas deeply touchedwhen her brother got one from the dump and fixed it up just for her. • Erna went off to "normal" school when shewas 17 years old to train as a teacher - got her first teaching job at 18 years of age! • She married at 21 and had the first of 3 children at the age of 23.When her youngest child was 2 months old, went back to teaching out of necessity...but how she loved her job! - feeling she was led to teach. • Having her children was the highlight of her life and is now the proud grandmother of 8, great-grandmother of 8, with one more great-grandchild on the way. • Feels at home at Birkdale - Safe and Secure...has made good friends, the staff is wonderful (has never met one she doesn't like) and she enjoys participating in the variety of activities. • "Whowouldn't love having your suite cleaned every week and being served delicious food you don't have to cook." ernaoffers this advice for the younger generations: Erna loves life -her philosophy is that you just have to enjoy life wherever you are and in whatever you do -she advises to make the choice to always look on the bright side of things WE'D lIkE TO INTRODUcE yOU TOERNa TaylOR Come Celebrate life with us!Come Celebrate life with us!
