Justice Alan Whitten outlined a comprehensive list of legal reasons � ursday to declare Hamilton's bylaw "inapplicable and inoperative," putting an end to unprecedented municipal rules requiring Canada Post to obtain a $200 permit for each so-called "super- mailbox." But the battle over the mailboxes isn't over. � e City of Hamilton's solicitor Jan- ice Atwood-Petkovski told councillors recently that the City "is reviewing the decision carefully in consultation with a constitutional specialist" before decid- ing whether to appeal, in part because of "heightened interest" from cities across the country. (At press time City of Hamilton has decided to appeal.) Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette said the Town would wait and see whether Hamilton appeals the decision. "In the meantime, we will continue to press for payment," said Bonnette.
