A 2015 pilot program, the Georgetown Farmers Market Food Share has been facilitat- ing donations between the market's farm ven- dors and the Georgetown Bread Basket since the beginning of July. Market Manager Sheena Switzer said, "This is an exciting new addition to the Georgetown Farmer's Market. As a community fixture that places such strong emphasis on the support of local farms and fresh food, it seemed like a logical next step for the market to facilitate the same availability for those who may not nor- mally be able to access fresh local food." At the end of the market day, staff from the Farmers Market collect produce from any ven- dors wishing to donate, then forward it to a rep- resentative from the Bread Basket. The donated food is destined for the 400 cli- ents that use the food bank on Sinclair Rd. on a regular basis. The distribution takes place on Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m. and again on Wednes- day morning if there is anything left over. From the Georgetown Bread Basket, "This is a wonderful opportunity for Georgetown Bread Basket clients as normally, they only get a fresh food box ONCE per month. These are also supplemented weekly with basics such as potatoes, apples, carrots, onions and other sea- sonal items." Market vendors donate to the Georgetown food bank Showing off the food donated to the Georgetown Bread Basket are: volunteers Mat Bilodeau and Mathew Bloomfield, Emily Hendrikx of Red Rabbit Farms, Sheena Switzer, Georgetown Market Manager, Don Burt of the Georgetown Bread Basket and volunteers Mark Bloomfield, Marin Shiell and Mary Shiell.
