"That is certainly everybody's hope," he said. Greyson Pelvin is able to walk, but his feet are not completely healed, he said. The boy's parents, Jill and Dave, also want to get the message out about other splash pads that may have the same situation. "We have to take a look at them and make sure they are safe for children," Halioua said. "There is a duty to take all reasonable precautions to ensure they are reasonably safe." Halioua said there is no decision on when or in what jurisdiction a civil suit might be filed, or how much the family might sue for. That's dependent on how Greyson progresses, he said. The bottom of the boy's feet suffered second- degree burns-- the left slightly worse than the right-- and he also suffered a minor burn to his right hand, according to Halioua. He stepped on a hot metal grate at the Gellert Community Park in Georgetown while on a playdate with his mother, two siblings and friends. The metal door is on the ground and covers the splash pad's control centre. It doesn't generate heat on hits own, but had been heated by the sun, according to the Town. The splash pad opened 15 years ago, and this is the first such incident, ac- cording to a Town spokesperson. Dave Pelvin said since the incident he has heard from friends in Milton, Scarborough and western Canada. They have sent him pictures of their lo- cal splash pad control centre doors surrounded by caution tape, awaiting a more permanent solution. In Brampton, the city examined all of its out- door water play areas following the incident and found only one that had a similar metal plate on the ground. It was at the wading pool at Gage Park in downtown Brampton and it has now been cov- ered with a reflective material to prevent it from absorbing heat. --With files from Metroland Media Group Toddler's feet healing from hot summer incident The Town of Halton Hills erected a fence around the metal doors to the Gellert Centre's splash pad control box after a Brampton boy burnt his feet severely one hot summer day.
