The Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP say Danny Grant was riding on the Haole Trail on Oct. 10 around 6 p.m. when he came off the trail and collided with a tree. Police say he was discovered by another cyclist, who contacted resort staff. Resort staff, paramedics and police responded, and despite resuscitation efforts, Grant died as a result of his injuries. Paul Pinchbeck, vice-president of marketing at Blue Mountain Resort told Simcoe.com in an email that it was a sad day for the resort. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the de- ceased and his family," Pinchbeck said. Pinchbeck said Grant had been a pass hold- er since 2005, and was an avid mountain biker. The Haole trail is one of two restricted access trails at the resort. Pinchbeck said users must pass a second evaluation of skill, conducted by the resort's bike school, in order to use the ad- vanced trails. Pinchbeck said Grant had passed the neces- sary evaluation in order to access the resort's advanced trails. The trail was closed through Saturday night and part of Sunday while OPP officers investi- gated. The OPP say Grant was wearing a helmet with a guard for the chin and jaw area.
