Frank Foley has been dubbed Britain's Schindler. Frank Foley was an intelligence of- ficer who was sent to Germany to spy on that country's activities, from 1922 to 1939. According to Dennis, he worked under the guise of a Passport Control Of- ficer, arranging exit visas so Jews could go to Palestine or to England. He has been credited with saving more than 10,000 men, women and children as Europe lurched towards war. He did this against the express wishes of the U.K. Foreign Office. According to The Holocaust Ex- plained website, www.theholocaustex- plained.org, Frank actually entered con- centration camps to hand out visas and sheltered Jews in his Berlin apartment. Frank and his family fled to Scandi- navia one day before war broke out in 1939. He passed away at the age of 73 in 1968. Georgetown man proud of family spy who saved thousands Frank's adventures are chronicled in a book, written by Daily Telegraph senior reporter Michael Smith, called Foley: The Spy Who Saved 10,000 Jews. In 2004, a plaque was placed outside the Brit- ish Embassy in Berlin to pay tribute to Foley's cour- age. Dennis is very proud of his family connection to this war hero. Dennis Foley holds the book and Guardian news article about his cousin Frank Foley, an MI6 spy who through his actions in Germany saved more than 10,000 Jews in the Second World War.
