Will you watch the parade in the Glen, cele- brate with family and friends around the barbe- cue and cap it off with fire- works? Or will you be at work, missing out on all the celebrations? Many people, myself in- cluded, will be missing the celebrations this year as all retail stores remain open. You see, whenever Canada Day falls on a Sunday, the holiday is moved to the Monday, so that those who work Monday-to-Friday jobs get a long weekend. That's all well and good, but moving the holiday day to the Monday does not mean that the parades, or the parties, or the fire- works are moved along with it. So, if the people of Georgetown truly are as patriotic as we claim to be, then I just have one re- quest: do not shop on Cana- da Day. Do not visit the mall, or the grocery store, the Beer Store or the LCBO. And maybe next time, when Canada Day falls on a Sunday, retailers will realize that it's just not cost-efficient to remain open.
