31| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,S eptem ber 13,2018 theifp.ca Marlene Mariano Sam- paio has dreamed about opening a multifaceted music school for the ma- jority of her working life. "Music has always been a part of me," she said. "It brings out the best in me." In 2006, following the birth of her son and her move to Georgetown, Sam- paio began teaching piano lessons out of her home and Silver Creek Music Academy was born. Now, she is prepared to expand her offerings to in- clude more instruments and a variety of teachers. Sampaio has acquired a space at St. Andrew's Unit- ed Church and is focused on hiring new music teach- ers who specialize in dif- ferent styles and are able to understand her vision. "The idea is to get every- body involved, see what we can do to help our students love music and find them- selves in music," she said. "I want to see if we can cap- ture the essence, the spirit, in people. " Sampaio is a Royal Conservatory of Music- certified teacher who currently instructs stu- dents of a wide variety of age groups and levels, be- ginning at age six, but with her new space, she is looking to offer a number of streams, which will in- clude classes for younger students. Sampaio says she is al- so working toward begin- ning a youth orchestra out of her new space at St. Andrew's. "I think it's a great op- portunity to give back to the church and to give children an opportunity they are not really used to having," Sampaio added. "Right now I just want to get kids in there and in- volved, and see where the magic can take us." Silver Creek Music Academy is currently ac- cepting registration for the 2018/2019 season. Carnwath (retired) Unless you have confirmed with your banker you can finance a new home without selling your present home, never, I repeat, never, firm up your purchase. Most real estate agents will warn you about this circumstance. If your agent isn't worried about selling your home, then ask him or her to guarantee the sale in writing. In the last few months I have had three deals go off the rails and settled a law suit for $20,000.00 in this circumstance. Buyers at times can get out of the law suit by finding private financing at double the bank interest rates or lowering the sale price of their home dramatically to get a quick deal. The above has cost my clients between $20,000.00 and $50,000.00 and changed what should be an enjoyable transaction into an emotional nightmare. Avoid the circumstance; there will always be another home you will love.
