th ei fp .c a Th e IF P -H al to n H ill s | T hu rs da y, A pr il 4, 20 19 | 32 Poverty is a wicked problem. The complexity and impact of poverty on society is vast and can in- clude many components such as: homelessness, food insecurity, physical and mental health, social isolation, and community safety and well-being. Due to the growing need to address this issue in Hal- ton, as of April 1, the Halton Poverty Roundtable (HPRT) and United Way Halton & Hamilton (UWHH) officially unified these two great organiza- tions, to deliver greater im- pact to local communities, with a goal of eliminating poverty. This opportunity expands a long-standing relationship, with signifi- cant alignment in our mis- sions and mandates, and working together is the best step moving forward to combat poverty in Hal- ton Region. The unification of these organizations will produce a single, more efficient, ef- fective and sustainable or- ganization. The new co- branded Halton Poverty Roundtable and United Way Halton & Hamilton will retain our core values of connect, educate and act, while accessing the bene- fits of a stronger, unified brand. Together, the HPRT will have a bigger platform to expand our ability and continue our trajectory and employ additional re- sources, to increase impact and expose the realities of poverty. It will also allow for a broader strategy in programming and en- hanced knowledge transla- tion. Together, we are looking forward to working more collaboratively, to continue mobilizing people to take action.
