They will find larger class sizes, fewer course options, fewer teachers and education workers, and less support. Visit knowmore.ca to contact your local MPP and tell them to stop the cuts to publicly funded education. Don't be surprised if you see local firefighters on your doorstep in the com- ing weeks. The Halton Hills Fire Department is currently conducting voluntary home inspections via its Home Safe Home program, which is designed to help local residents make their homes safer by reducing the chance of fire and other tragedies. The free program will see firefighters go door-to- door from now until Octo- ber offering home inspec- tions focused on smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, heating equip- ment, electrical hazards, home escape planning and household dangers. Fire- fighters will also provide relevant fire safety litera- ture. Participation by homeowners is voluntary. "Most of a family's free time is spent in their home, and home is where adults and children should feel safe," said Fire Chief Harry Olivieri. "The Home Safe Home courtesy fire safety inspection program is a valuable program support- ing our residents." This year's program be- gins with the following streets in Acton: Elizabeth Drive, Tidey Avenue, Nel- son Court, Elmore Drive, Jeffery Avenue, Tyler Ave- nue and Coles Court. In Georgetown, the streets include: Mowat Crescent, Atwood Avenue, Berton Boulevard, Munro Circle, Poets Path, Johnson Crescent, Newman Place, Callaghan Crescent and Grey Owl Run. Should any issues be identified during the in- spection, firefighters will educate the homeowner on corrective measures. If smoke and/or carbon mon- oxide alarms are found to be inoperative or require replacement, new batteries or new battery-operated alarms will be installed. In the event that there's a more serious fire safety issue or the homeowner would like a followup, fire prevention staff will be in touch. The Halton Hills Fire Department emphasizes that no charges or fines would be applied against the resident if any infrac- tions are identified. Homeowners who don't live on one of the scheduled inspection streets can re- quest an inspection by con- tacting the fire department at 905-877-1133. Those on the scheduled streets who'd like to advance their inspection can also call to arrange an appointment.
