For many of us, Christmas is a wonderful time of year full of special gatherings, traditions, gifts and celebrations. Unfortunately, for many in our community, this time of year is difficult as they struggle to just provide the basic necessities for their family. For 16 years, Kerr Street Mission has rallied our community with our "Christmas Wonders and Beyond" program to help families in need celebrate this joyous season. Through financial donations from our community, we have been able to bless 1300+ people with Christmas in a Box (gift cards (that can be used to purchase special gifts), toys, and pajamas.). It is our goal this year to help all of our families have a special and memorable holiday. With your help, we can truly make this the most wonderful time of the year for our neighbours in need. Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford announced Fri- day, Nov. 15 that the fund- ing had been allocated to help seniors stay active and socially connected. The funding included: .$42,700 for the Sir John Colborne Recreation Cen- tre for Seniors .$30,300 for the Iroquois Ridge Older Adult Centre .$42,700 for the Trafalgar Park Older Adults Centre "This funding will go a long way in helping seniors in Oakville stay active and socially connected, while also preventing social isola- tion," said Crawford. "Seniors active living centres provide a hub for seniors and their families to build positive connec- tions, encourage physical activity, and in doing so, benefit everyone's well-be- ing." Crawford said seniors active living centre pro- grams support more than 100,000 seniors across the province, and this funding will provide a variety of programming and activi- ties to help seniors stay ac- tive, socially engaged, safe and healthy. He said this is especially important given that about 30 per cent of Canadian se- niors are at risk of becom- ing isolated. The province's Minister for Seniors and Accessibil-for Seniors and Accessibil-f ity Raymond Cho said sup- porting seniors today is about investing in all our futures.futures.f "This funding will have a direct and positive impact on seniors in communities across the province by giv- ing them an opportunity to take part in programs and services that will help keep them active, socially con- nected, and healthy," he said.
