- When photographed for the Parks Canada project, the owner was Mr. A.M. Macrae who resided at 29 Thomas Street. The tenant in the house was Ms. Napier. It was estimated that the house was built in 1839.
181 Front Street in Oakville, Ontario is Listed on the Town of Oakville Register of Designated Properties. The build date is 1837. The legal description is PT LT D. BLK 22. PL1, PT LT E, BLK 22, PL 1, PART 3, 20R2119.
Noted in the Listing are the architectural features; "This small house has a 3 bay front with side entrance hall. The 12 pane sash and simple detailing suggest a construction date in the mid-19th century. - Notes
- In 1971-1972, Parks Canada photographed those buildings that were 100 or more years old. This Canadian Inventory of Heritage Buildings was a Centennial Project.
The Trafalgar Township Historical Society has worked with Parks Canada and Library and Archives Canada to find these photographs in the area of Trafalgar Township and the city of Oakville, Ontario. The collection will grow as we have time to collect and prepare the images.
The TTHS is also sending the images to the Town of Oakville Heritage Planners to increase local availability and to ensure local preservation.
