That pretty much encapsu- lates the latest fundraising ef- forts of Julianna Dick, who for the past five years has been bak- ing and selling cupcakes in sup- port of the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. With mom Eva lending her kitchen skills to the endeavour and dad John assisting with pro- motion and delivery, the 16-year- old animal lover dedicated this year's campaign to her dog Ches- ter, a west highland white terrier who passed away in December. With the family's beloved for- mer pet serving as inspiration, cupcake sales reached $1,100 -- bringing Julianna's overall con- tributions to the OMHS to nearly $4,000. "I hope by raising money, it will help as many animals as pos- sible by finding their forever homes," she said. "I also want to raise awareness about how peo- ple can adopt a pet, or maybe even volunteer to help out." This year's sales received a boost via the humane society's re- cently launched Pawsitive Part- ners program, a promotional package -- complete with a fund- raising guidebook, banners, ta- bletop signs, etc. -- to support community supporters like Ju- lianna. "The tools provided are so helpful, especially if you are just starting to fundraise," said the lo- cal teen, who brought some of her cupcakes -- which she takes great care in decorating -- along for the latest cheque presenta- tion. "A lot of the work is already done for you." "We rely 100 per cent on dona- tions, so the amazing efforts of fundraisers like Julianna make all the difference," said OMHS Executive Director Rick Per- ciante.
