Physical distancing, working from home, hand washing and other measures have helped us fight this vi- rus together. We can now work toward a safe, gradual reopening of businesses, public and community spac- es. Too many people are hurting. People have lost their lives or become ill. Peo- ple have lost their jobs. Busi- nesses are hurting. Parents want their kids back in school. We need to reopen Ontario, but we must do it safely. On April 27, the Onta- rio Government released A Framework for Reopening our Province. It's a road map that sets out the criteria that Ontario's chief medical offi- cer of health and health ex- perts will use to advise the government on reopening. In the first stage, selected workplaces are allowed to re- open with modified opera- tions. Some outdoor spaces, such as parks, can reopen and a greater number of indi- viduals can attend some events. Hospitals will offer some non-urgent and sched- uled surgeries and other health services. The second stage will see more reopenings, based on risk assessments, including service industries, office and retail workplaces. Some larg- er public gatherings will be allowed, and more outdoor spaces will open. In the final stage, remaining workplaces will reopen with a further re- laxing of restrictions on pub- lic gatherings. The first limited reopen- ings started May 4, allowing curbside pickup for garden centres and a reopening of lawn care and landscaping. Marinas and golf courses al- lowed to start preparing for the season. On May 8, garden centres and on May 9, hard- ware and safety supply stores were allowed limited openings to customers. May 11, all retail stores with a street entrance were allowed curbside pickup and deliv- ery.
