The Halton District School Board has delayed the reopening of schools to Monday, Sept. 14 for both elementary and sec- ondary students and will now require students in Grades 1-12 to wear masks. Here's what else you need to know about the board's revised plan to re- open its schools: 1.) The reopening delay will affect both in-person and virtual school stu- dents. 2.) The board will hold elementary school visits Thursday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 11 to allow students the chance to be- come familiar with new health and safety proto- cols. More details will be provided next week to families. 3.) An orientation for both in-person and virtu- al learning secondary stu- dents will also be held with a date to be an- nounced once timetables and cohorts have been scheduled. 4.) Students with spe- cial needs may have the opportunity to partici- pate in transition activi- ties prior to the start of school. Further informa- tion will be provided to families by their child's school. 5.) Non-medical, cloth masks or face coverings will not be required for kindergarten students; however, they will be en- couraged. 6.) Students are re- quired to bring their own masks each day; however, masks will be available for students who forget or for families who need as- sistance getting cloth masks. 7.) There is an exemp- tion process in place for students for whom wear- ing a mask is not advis- able. 8.) Physical distancing is not possible on school buses and masks will also be required on school bus- es for students in Grade 1- 12. 9.) Bus routes could be delayed due to driver shortages and new clean- ing protocols. 10.) Students riding the bus will have assigned seating according to their class cohorts. There will be no courtesy seating for the duration of the 2020/ 2021 school year. 11.) For more updates and details, visit hdsb.ca.
